Jerry Jones on Tuesday made a remark that some might interpret as yet another swipe at Micah Parsons, though the Dallas Cowboys owner insists he was being sincere.

During his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones was asked for his thoughts on Parsons’ debut with the Green Bay Packers. Jones said there was nothing about the star pass-rusher’s performance that surprised him and noted that Parsons did not seem to be hampered by the back injury he dealt with in recent weeks.

Some thought Jones was taking a shot at Parsons by bringing up the back issue, but the 82-year-old said he was not.

“From what I saw, I thought he was able to get in there and not have any influence from his back,” Jones said. “I say that with a straight face, I do. I wish him well, except against the Cowboys.”

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones on @1053thefan on Micah Parsons’ debut in Green Bay:

Parsons had not been practicing with the Cowboys in training camp before he was traded to the Packers in a blockbuster deal. He cited a back injury as the reason he was showing up to camp but not participating in on-field drills.

Parsons was also seeking a contract extension and publicly feuding with his former team at the time, so many assumed the back injury was a bogus excuse to avoid being fined. However, it has since been reported that Parsons received treatment for the injury both in Dallas and Green Bay.

If the Cowboys were treating Parsons for the back injury, Jones should know it is legitimate. It is possible that Jones was making a genuine observation about Parsons overcoming the back pain to play effectively, though you can understand why many people are skeptical.

Parsons recorded a sack in Green Bay’s 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. One Cowboys star had a very animated reaction to the play.
