Jets coach Aaron Glenn addresses video that led to him being crticized

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was so excited that he just couldn’t hide it after a big play in his team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and he is not going to apologize for that.

The Jets erased a huge deficit to come back and take the lead late in their Week 3 loss to the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. New York was trailing 26-13 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before scoring two quick touchdowns, one of which came on a blocked field goal.

After the Jets scored on a blocked field goal with 1:49 left, Glenn sprinted down the sideline and danced in celebration. Many fans roasted him, as New York still went on to lose the game.

Glenn was asked on Thursday about his enthusiasm. He expressed no regret.

“I’m gonna always be me. Listen, these guys need someone that’s gonna show they believe in them and that’s gonna show that they’re proud of when they make plays,” Glenn said. “If I probably didn’t do that, my wife and kids would have said, ‘What’s happening, what’s going on with you?’

“I’m gonna never be fake. I’m gonna always be me. Some people like it, some people don’t. It doesn’t matter. I’m glad that people can see me and my authentic self no matter what. Someone said, ‘Is a head coach supposed to act like that?’ How is a head coach supposed to act? I don’t know, but it was good. It was good.”

The Jets are 0-3 this season, but Glenn was pleased that they did not quit when they went down two scores late against the Bucs. It seems like the team responded to the seven-word message Glenn had about their Week 2 loss.

Glenn was celebrating a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown, so it is not entirely fair to say his dance was premature. He was showing emotion after a massive special teams play, not reacting as if his team had won the game already.
