Jets fans reportedly booed Geno Smith, chanted for Ryan Fitzpatrick at team Q&A event
New York Jets fans want Ryan Fitzpatrick back, and they’re not afraid to make that clear.
The team held a Town Hall event for about 1,000 season ticket holders last Wednesday, and it included owner Woody Johnson, general manager Mike Maccagnan, and coach Todd Bowles. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the event was “dominated” by questions about the team’s negotiations with Fitzpatrick.
It went even further than that. The crowd reportedly booed when Bowles mentioned Geno Smith’s name, and some fans even chanted “We Want Fitz” over the course of the evening.
Needless to say, Jets fans probably weren’t happy to see this report. To add to the awkward situation the team has found itself in, even some of the players are backing Fitzpatrick here. Someone has to give in first. While the Jets hold the leverage, they’re also not exactly winning in the court of public opinion.
