Pittsburgh Steelers icon Mean Joe Greene has some thoughts on the current iteration of the team, and not all of them positive.
According to Greene, 2016 was a lost year for the team, thanks in part to some players who like to showboat a little too much.
“We got guys who like to showboat,” Greene told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It’s definitely the one [Antonio Brown], but it’s more than one. And they owe themselves better than that. You only have so long to play this game, it’s not always going to be there, you know. You have to max out.
“This year was a year lost. I can only imagine what would have happened to this team had our receiver who was suspended for a year [Martavis Bryant] been playing on the field. I can only imagine what would have happened had all of our weapons been there.”
Greene also felt some Steelers were more concerned with their personal brand than with the team’s success.
“I’m saying right now we need someone in there who epitomizes what the Steelers are about and doesn’t mind picking up that gauntlet to be a Steeler and not to be out there creating – what do they call it? — their brand. You have to be a Pittsburgh Steeler first. You can’t create that act.”
It’s no surprise that Brown, who has rubbed some people the wrong way, is singled out here. He might be the best receiver in the game, but his antics are definitely going to be met with disapproval from some people.
