Joey Bosa reportedly nowhere near being ready to play

Joey Bosa Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are on a bye this week, and there had been optimism that star pass-rusher Joey Bosa would be ready to return when they come out of it in Week 9. That now sounds unlikely, however.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was told by a source that Bosa isn’t “anywhere near ready to play right now.” The foot injury he suffered in August typically takes 8-12 weeks to fully heal, and Bosa is not healthy enough where he feels like he can practice this week. That means he is most likely going to sit out against the Seattle Seahawks next Sunday.

While Bosa has been taking part in daily workouts on the field, he has not participated in football activities. He admitted earlier in the year that he probably would not be able to play before the bye, and his absence is apparently going to be lengthier than that.

The Chargers have played well in Bosa’s absence. They’re 4-2 and 13th in the NFL in overall defense despite playing without a defensive end who has 23 sacks through his first 28 NFL games. The early timelines for Bosa’s return were obviously too optimistic.
