John Fox: Bears will ride Jordan Howard ‘pretty good’ going forward

With Matt Forte gone and Jeremy Langford largely falling flat before suffering an ankle injury in Week 3, rookie running back Jordan Howard is taking his opportunity in the Chicago Bears backfield and running with it. Literally.

The Bears found their way into the win column for the first time this season with a 17-14 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, thanks in large part to 111 yards on 23 carries from Howard. After the game, head coach John Fox said that the team will be leaning heavily on Howard going forward.

“I think he’s outstanding,” Fox said of Howard, per Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune. “We’ll ride him pretty good moving forward.”

Langford, who had only rushed for a combined 116 yards in his first three games, is expected to be out for another 3-5 weeks with his sprained ankle. In the meantime, Howard will get all the burn he can handle, and it sounds like he has a good chance to hold onto the starting gig even once Langford returns.
