Johnny Manziel’s father: ‘We’re trying to get our son better’

Johnny Manziel’s family is aware of the quarterback’s problems and they are still trying to help him get better.

Manziel’s father, Paul, talked to WFAA in response to the report that Johnny tried to hit ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley and threatened their lives.

“We’re trying to get our son better,” Paul Manziel told WFAA. “We’re not there yet.”

Johnny Manziel’s problems seem to have only gotten worse over time. He entered the draft with some questions about his character because of his reputation for partying and enjoying the spotlight, but he hadn’t done much wrong in the way of the law. That has changed.

Police were called regarding a fight between Manziel and Crowley on the road in October (video from the incident here). Prior to that, Manziel was in treatment for alcohol abuse.

Manziel has been exhibiting questionable behavior the past few months. He reportedly skipped the Cleveland Browns’ final game of the season to go to Las Vegas undercover. Then, despite his public alcohol problems, he was spotted buying or drinking alcohol multiple times.

The Browns plan to cut Manziel in March when they have the chance, and incidents like this make it more unlikely that another team would want any part of him.
