Johnny Manziel says he has not been drinking
Johnny Manziel has seemingly been partying nonstop since the 2015 NFL season ended, but the free agent insists he is doing it sober.
TMZ caught up with Manziel early Friday morning while the former Browns quarterback was leaving a nightclub in Hollywood, and Manziel insisted he has been “staying on track” and not drinking.
“The L.A. party scene is alright,” he said. “I’m not really partying, though. I’m just out with some buddies. No drinking. Hanging with the boys, man.”
Manziel says he has mostly just been doing some fine dining.
“I’m out at the spots,” he said. “I’m eating good food. Not doing anything crazy though, being smart. … I’m not always partying. I’m just out having a good time with my boys and not drinking.”
Given his history, most people will find that hard to believe. That said, Manziel really hasn’t been photographed or videotaped drinking since he was throwing down at a bar during the AFC Championship Game back in January. A model that spent the weekend with Manziel in Miami even said Manziel was not being reckless. You can read more about that here.
Obviously, Manziel wants NFL teams to know (think?) he is being responsible. But whether he has been drinking or not, it’s not a good look for him to be staying out until the wee hours every single night. That doesn’t show teams he is committed to straightening out his act.
