Jonathan Allen is apologizing after receiving backlash for a comment that he made this week about Adolf Hitler.

The Washington Commanders defensive tackle held an impromptu Q&A session for his Twitter followers Tuesday. The Q&A went sideways though when Allen was asked which three people, dead or alive, he would want to have dinner with.

“My grandad, hitler, and micheal [sic] Jackson,” replied Allen.

When asked why he had chosen Hitler, Allen said, “He’s a military genius and I love military tactics but honestly I would want to pick his brain as to why he did what he did. I’m also assuming that the people I’ve chosen have to answer all my questions honestly.”

Here is a screenshot of the Twitter exchange, which Allen has since deleted.

After getting overwhelming criticism for his comments on Hitler, the man who perpetrated the Holocaust, Allen tweeted an apology on Wednesday.

“Early I tweeted something that probably hurt people and I apologize about what I said,” wrote Allen. “I didn’t express properly what I was trying to say and I realize it was dumb!”

The 27-year-old Allen just made the Pro Bowl for his strong 2021 campaign. He started all 17 games for Washington, recording nine sacks and 62 tackles.

This is not Allen’s first brush with controversy though. During a game this season, Allen made headlines for a fight on the sidelines with a teammate.
