Josh Rosen feels like he’s ‘trying out’ for Dolphins this season

Josh Rosen Dolphins

Josh Rosen was named the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback for the remainder of the season on Wednesday, but it feels a bit different for him.

The Dolphins have given off various signals that they aren’t entire committed to Rosen, especially as they contend for the first overall pick in next April’s draft. Rosen admitted Wednesday that it’s left him feeling like he’s essentially trying out for a spot on the team, even though he’s the starting quarterback.

It’s easy to understand why. Though they traded for him during the offseason, it doesn’t feel like the Dolphins are particularly wedded to Rosen long-term. The fact is, they’re tanking, and doing it so blatantly that the league has taken notice. The prevailing thought is that they want to draft a quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa, which would once again throw Rosen’s long-term future into doubt.

Rosen hasn’t exactly impressed for Miami so far, throwing for 482 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Of course, he has virtually no talent around him, which must be factored in.
