Julian Edelman gave New England Patriots fans a scare when he was forced to leave Thursday night’s preseason game against the New York Giants early with an injury, but the team is apparently not concerned about it.
Edelman was playing in his first preseason game after missing several weeks with a broken thumb, and the initial fear was that he re-aggravated the same injury. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that it was actually a separate hand injury and Edelman is expected to be “fine.”
#Patriots WR Julian Edelman left last night’s preseason game earlier than planned, but my understanding is he did not re-injure his thumb. And his hand, the one he landed on, is fine. A minor scare for Edelman, but nothing major.

Based on that report, it would be a surprise if Edelman did not play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.
Edelman is by far Tom Brady’s favorite target, and Brady could look to him even more often this season with Rob Gronkowski having retired. The 33-year-old receiver caught 74 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns last season despite appearing in just 12 games, as we was suspended to start the year.
