Kenny Britt Charged with Resisting Arrest Day After Careless Driving Plea
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was sacked by the LBS Nut Bag in April for his police chase in New Jersey. It was the sort of tale that would make Mr. Toad jealous as it featured equal parts of high speeds, drug use, and typical denial. On Tuesday, Britt pleaded guilty to careless driving (that’s one heck of a euphemism for leading cops on a chase … but I digress). Now here’s the best part: a day after his guilty plea, the dude got into some more trouble.
According to The Jersey Journal, Britt was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing a government function and resisting arrest. He allegedly crushed a cigar containing marijuana in order to hide it from police before he was collared. Here are the specific details from the event:
When confronted by two officers, Britt destroyed/discarded physical evidence “to wit, a hand rolled cigar leaf containing suspected marijuana,” doing so by “breaking it with your hand and therefore making it unavailable to the investigating officers.”
The complaint says Britt “did purposely prevent or attempt to prevent a public servant from lawfully performing an official function by means of force or violence, specifically by refusing to open your hand when ordered to do so then pulling your hand away.”
Finally the complaint said the former Bayonne High School football star resisted arrest by “using your body to push away from the officers and pulling your arm away while not allowing the officers to handcuff you.”
Alright, so Kenny Britt crushed a blunt in his hand and wouldn’t let the officers see it so he could avoid drug charges. Given the plea deal he arranged for his driving chase, I’m going to guess they only hit him with a misdemeanor possession charge, which is being absurdly kind.
Britt clearly cannot stay out of trouble and he’s clearly not making an effort to. He was in a bar fight during the season, he had the police chase, and now he’s been arrested again, this time for drugs. There’s always something with him, and it’s no wonder Jeff Fisher had complaints about his attitude.
Not only did he and Pacman Jones have similarities in that they were both first-round picks by the Titans, but Britt is now chasing him down on the rap sheet. Britt’s a talented player but it’s hard to feel badly for him when he clearly doesn’t care about himself. If he did, he’d stop getting himself into trouble.
