Report: Khalil Mack holding out of training camp

Khalil Mack

When the Oakland Raiders open up training camp this week, their best defensive player reportedly will not be there.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Khalil Mack is holding out of training camp and will not report on Thursday.

This is not unexpected considering Mack also held out of minicamp as he seeks a new deal. The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is making just under $14 million this year in what is the final season of his rookie deal, but he is seeking a long-term contract. He has the potential to earn record money if he gets a new deal.

The Raiders have already worked out long-term deals with Derek Carr and some of their lineman, so it’s understandable for Mack to be frustrated over not being prioritized. Mack has 40.5 sacks over his four-year career.
