Khalil Mack could set NFL record for guaranteed money
Khalil Mack is seeking a new contract as he enters the final season of his rookie deal, and the star defensive end is sure to break records if and when the Oakland Raiders sign him to a long-term extension. Not surprisingly, he is expected to surpass Von Miller financially.
Miller signed the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history when the Denver Broncos gave him $114 million over six years and $70 million guaranteed. According to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area, that deal will be seen as the baseline for Mack’s negotiations, and Mack will likely get closer a six-year, $120 million contract.
But what about the all-important guarantee? Steve Wyche of NFL Network said earlier in the week that Mack could get somewhere in the ballpark of $65 million, and it would not be a surprise if the Raiders go higher.
Mack is arguably the best pass-rusher in football, as he has recorded no fewer than 10.5 sacks in each of his last three NFL seasons. He has already given a strong indication that he does not want to wait until next offseason to sign an extension, and the Raiders sound like they are willing to do what it takes to keep their best defensive player happy.
