Leonard Fournette sees a free agent on the market who he thinks would be great for his Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fournette made an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” Thursday and talked about his desire for the Jags to sign quarterback Cam Newton.
“(Cam) went to the Super Bowl, he’s a great guy. I’ve been on Cam for a minute now. There’s no disrespect to (Gardner) Minshew; I’m just trying to get in the best position as a team that we can win. A friendly competition can bring out the best in people.”
Jacksonville traded Nick Foles to the Bears for a fourth-round pick, leaving Minshew as the starter. Minshew, who was a rookie, put up a nice statistical season with 3,271 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions, but the Jags only went 6-10. Jacksonville seems committed to giving the youngster a shot, which means that Newton might not be a part of their agenda.
As of now, Newton could wait until training camp to sign. Part of the issue with him is his foot injury and the inability for teams to meet with and examine him.
