The Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a brutal start against one of the worst teams in the NFL on Monday night, and their fans wasted no time letting the team know how disappointed they were in the lackluster performance. Had he paid for a ticket to the game, Mason Rudolph says he would have reacted the same way.
Fans at Heinz Field booed the home team after the Miami Dolphins jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Rudolph was asked about that after the game, and the quarterback said the Steelers deserved it.
Mason Rudolph on the early boos at Heinz Field:
“I would’ve booed that performance too. We were coming out slow. This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. There’s a standard here.”

For a while in the first half, it looked like the Steelers might lose to a team that has been committed to tanking since the offseason. However, Pittsburgh went on to score 27 unanswered points, with Rudolph shaking off some early struggles en route to completing 20-of-36 passes for 251 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. The Steelers also improved to 3-4 rather than falling to 2-5, which essentially keeps their season alive.
Between losing Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell and then watching their best remaining player go down with a season-ending injury, this year has been a rough one on Steelers fans. It’s no surprise they reacted the way they did after their team fell behind 14-0 against one of the worst teams in NFL history.
