Micah Parsons makes his thoughts on Matt LaFleur very clear

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur may be on the hot seat, but at least one of his star players is trying to relieve some of the pressure.

Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons gave LaFleur a full-throated endorsement Monday, two days after the team’s season ended at the hands of the Chicago Bears in the NFC Wild Card round. Parsons cited LaFleur as a reason he wanted to come to Green Bay, and did not want the organization to regret letting a good coach go.

“I reached out to him when I started seeing this, and I said, ‘Man, when I agreed to come here, you were part of the reason why I came here. I want you a part of this, and I love you. I think you’re a great coach.’ He appreciated those words and we had a brief conversation,” Parsons told reporters. “Matt is, I think he’s a great guy. He cares so much. He cares so much about the players. I don’t think people realize that. And you can get spoiled with good coaching and good people, and you don’t realize it until they’re gone. I don’t want to be at that point where we realize, damn, we let such a great coach go.”

Parsons’ words could certainly carry weight with Packers management. The team gave up a lot to get him and make him the centerpiece of their defense. Plus, it certainly does not sound like LaFleur has lost the backing of his players.

LaFleur is heading into his lame duck season, and the Packers will likely have to make a decision this offseason on whether to commit to him or find a new coach. He has made the playoffs in six of his seven seasons as Packers head coach, and has a regular season record of 76-40-1. However, he is just 3-6 in the playoffs, and has failed to get past the divisional round in each of his last four postseason appearances.
