Michael Irvin will not be charged in sexual assault case
Michael Irvin was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Fort Lauderdale just over four months ago, but the Hall of Fame receiver is not going to face any charges.
Andy Slater of WINZ Radio reported on Monday that Irvin’s sexual assault case has been dismissed without charges being filed. The Broward County State Attorney’s Office determined that there was not enough evidence against Irvin and a conviction was unlikely.
The investigation began when a woman said she went back to Irvin’s hotel room with him at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale on March 21 and began to feel sick. She said the last thing she remembered was trying to fight Irvin off of her, and when she woke up the next day he was getting ready to check out. She believed she had been drugged and raped.
Irvin’s attorney said the former Dallas Cowboys receiver was “blindsided” by the allegation and that he has a long history with the woman. Irvin said in April that he had never had a dating relationship or sexual relations of any kind with the woman.
Irvin, 51, is currently an analyst for NFL Network.
