Report: Mike McDaniel adding notable former All-Pro to coaching staff
New Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is adding some star power to his coaching staff in the form of a well-known former player.
Longtime NFL wide receiver Wes Welker will join Miami’s staff as wide receivers coach, according to Armando Salguero of Outkick. Welker briefly played for the Dolphins from 2004 to 2006 before becoming a star with the New England Patriots.
I’m told Wes Welker will be joining Mike McDaniel staff with the #Dolphins as their WR coach. A return to South Florida after he played for the Dolphins in the mid 2000s.

Welker is not new to coaching at the NFL level. He initially broke in as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans in 2017. He currently serves as the wide receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers, a role he has held since 2019.
Welker is still best-known for his exploits as a Patriot, where he caught 672 passes and 37 touchdowns over six seasons as one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets. That connection with Brady almost led to a coup for the 49ers, if only they hadn’t blown it with some bad analysis.
