Mike Tomlin wants Steelers kicker to stop winning 1 award
Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell has won his second AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award, and that did not exactly thrill head coach Mike Tomlin.
Boswell accounted for all of the Steelers’ points in their 18-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. The veteran converted on all six of his field goal attempts, including three from 50 or more yards.
Following the game, Tomlin praised Boswell but said he is tired of the 33-year-old winning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. That is because Boswell’s opportunities stem from Pittsburgh’s struggles getting the ball into the end zone.
“I love Boz, man. I’m tired of him getting Player of the Week,” Tomlin said. “He probably got Player of the Week again this week. He’s deserving of it, but it reminds us of our warts. It reminds us of the work that we need to do. But, man, no doubt, I’m thankful that he’s on our team.”

Boswell was also named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after six field goals in an 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
Sunday was not the first time the Steelers have won a game under Tomlin without scoring a touchdown. In fact, his teams are a lot better at winning that way than the rest of the NFL, and one viral stat proves it.
If you must kick field goals, it is nice to have a kicker who has made 29/30 attempts on the season and is practically automatic. But if the Steelers scored more touchdowns, Boswell would have fewer field goals. That is why Tomlin wants to see Boswell’s total point numbers stop growing at such an rapid clip.
