Mike Tomlin spent 19 seasons as the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach before stepping down after the 2026 season.
Tomlin has a total of 196 wins with one Super Bowl on his resume, and the legendary coach won’t be on the sidelines this season wearing a headset.
However, Tomlin left the door open regarding a return to coaching sometime in the future.
“It’s certainly not a 32-team league for me, but I’ve also learned to never say never,” Tomlin said while doing an interview with Cris and Jac Collinsworth on Pro Football Focus. “I love to coach. I love all the challenges of the profession. I love to be a part of growth and development of young people individually. I love the measurement of the seven-day cycle, but also have enjoyed, man, the last six months life on this other side that I had no idea about.”
After Tomlin stepped down in January, a report swirled stating that Tomlin would not coach again, although these comments from Tomlin himself seem to be much different.
For this upcoming season, Mike Tomlin will be part of NBC’s “Football Night in America” after being hired as an analyst, so he will still be around the game plenty.
Right now, Tomlin is going to try the television route, but the idea of returning to the sidelines could come after the 2026 season.
