Mike Vrabel may want to teach his running backs the art of the dodge after pulling a skillful verbal evasion on an unsuspecting reporter.
Vrabel made headlines for the wrong reasons this offseason, amid rumors of a questionable relationship with veteran reporter Dianna Russini. Photos of the pair together, seemingly looking very comfortable with one another, emerged in April.
While there was never concrete evidence of an inappropriate relationship between the two, Vrabel did opt to get counseling for the sake of both his family and the team.
On Tuesday, a reporter asked Vrabel what he had learned from the counseling sessions, the first of which resulted in the Patriots coach missing Day 3 of the NFL Draft. The former All-Pro linebacker did not attack the question head-on, instead giving the reporter a vague spiel about the team always looking to better themselves both on and off the field.
“I think we always look at improvement,” Vrabel responded, via Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. “As we talk about getting ready for the next season, we always look at improvement and ways that we can improve individually and how we can improve as a team.
“It’s really critical that we continue to do that on and off the field. I believe in that. I believe in everything that we can do to help this football team, to help our coaches, to help myself and everybody else included. This journey that we are going to go on is going to be completely different than the one we went on last year. That’s all of our jobs, is to prepare for it now. So, really focused on our improvement individually and as a team, and that’s something that we can do today.”
Vrabel then transitioned to the Patriots’ O-line needing to learn to play “together as a unit” and improving on their combination blocking.
Vrabel, meanwhile, showed off his ability to block the media from getting a spicy soundbite out of him.
