Drake Maye distributed interceptions like it was Christmas in the New England Patriots’ 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, and it was certainly far from the liking of Pats head coach Mike Vrabel.
Maye repeatedly shot the Patriots in the foot with turnovers in the fourth quarter, where he got picked off not once, not twice, but three times.
Vrabel addressed his quarterback’s INTs in the Super Bowl rematch.
“You can’t throw three interceptions,” Vrabel said after the game, via Josh Dubow of the Associated Press. “Drake knows that.”
The Seahawks entered the final period of the game at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash., trailing by seven points. But they capitalized on every turnover that they forced to catch up and eventually win the game.
After Maye’s first interception, the Seahawks capped a five-play drive with a 45-yard touchdown by wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to tie the score. Maye threw another interception in the next possession before Seattle responded with a field goal to take the lead for good.
With over five minutes left in regulation, the Patriots had enough time to score, and it looked like they were on the verge of stealing a win in enemy territory, as Maye led his team into the red zone only to throw an ill-advised pass that Seattle defensive back Josh Jobe intercepted to close the game out.
Maye threw only eight interceptions in 2025 when he finished second in the MVP voting, but he’s already over 30% of that total this season after only one game. It’s not time to hit the panic button for Patriots fans on Maye, but the way he started the season was surely far from ideal.
Maye and the Patriots will look to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole to start the season when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
