The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a new starting quarterback in the wake of Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, and it sounds like the job will go to Mitchell Trubisky.

Trubisky has agreed to a two-year deal with the Steelers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The expectation is that he will be Pittsburgh’s starter.

The #Steelers have reached agreement on a two-year deal with QB Mitchell Trubisky, sources say. The former No. 2 overall pick heads to Pittsburgh as the expected starter in place of the retired Ben Roethlisberger.

Trubisky spent a year as the backup behind Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills last season. Despite his struggles with the Chicago Bears prior to that, several teams were interested in Trubisky as a potential starting QB.

Trubisky, 27, was drafted No. 2 overall by the Bears in 2017. He went 29-21 over four shaky seasons as Chicago’s starter. Though he passed for 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions during a Pro Bowl season in 2018, he only threw for an average of 208 yards per game during his Bears career.

The Steelers could still draft a quarterback. They went 9-7-1 last season and made the playoffs even with Roethlisberger struggling throughout the year. That is likely why they did not feel the need to give up significant assets for a star QB.
