Marshawn Lynch had no shortage of supporters after being ejected for making contact with an official during Thursday’s game between the Raiders and Chiefs.

During the second quarter, Lynch entered the field of play from the sideline after Derek Carr was hit late by Marcus Peters. The two teams gathered with a few players from each side exchanging words. Lynch got into the middle of things and grabbed an official. He was subsequently ejected.

Afterward, Bengals running back Joe Mixon and a couple of retired NFL players defended Lynch’s actions on social media.

Y'all gotta understand that Marshawn and Marcus Peters are cousins he came to help both parties….

Now was M. Lynch protecting hisQBor his homie from Oakland

— Randy McMichael (@randymac81) October 20, 2017

Shawn & Marcus are like family I'm sure he was going to deescalate the situation. Very unfortunate outcome

— Justin Forsett (@JForsett) October 20, 2017

The sentiment was also shared by a few members of the media.

Looked like Lynch was coming in to protect Peters? The Oakland is strong in that one.

— Sam Mellinger (@mellinger) October 20, 2017

I believe Marshawn Lynch went on the field to protect his guys, but also Marcus Peters: share the same agent, both are from Oakland.

— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) October 20, 2017

Given their relationship and the Oakland connection, there’s a good chance Marshawn was trying to protect Peters from further harm there.

— Tim Keown (@TimKeownESPN) October 20, 2017

I really think Marshawn Lynch ran off the bench to protect Marcus Peters

— Marcus Thompson (@ThompsonScribe) October 20, 2017

I don't think I've ever seen a player so adamant about protecting an opponent. But it makes sense. He LOVES Marcus Peters.

— Marcus Thompson (@ThompsonScribe) October 20, 2017

Looked like Lynch was trying to protect Marcus Peters, his good friend and fellow Oakland native. Strange sequence. https://t.co/07r2QVoc4w

While Lynch’s intentions are not known at this time, one thing we do know is he can expect to be punished by the NFL.
