The much-hyped race between Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is off, at least according to Lyles.
At a Sport Beach event in Cannes, France on Monday, Lyles said the race between him and Hill would not take place due to “complications” and “personal reasons.” The Olympic gold medalist said the original plan was to hold the event this weekend, but it ultimately fell through.
“We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,” Lyles said, via Mitch Fink of the New York Post. “Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on.
“We were gonna have a big event, we were going to shut down New York Times Square and everything, we were gonna have all the billboards for the event, it was going to be a lot of fun.”
It is not clear if Lyles and Hill plan to reschedule. However, as recently as this weekend, Hill was working hard on his sprinting ability, so he certainly seems eager to hold the race at some point.
Hill and Lyles had been taunting each other since last summer’s Olympics in Paris. Both seemed up for the race, but at this stage of the NFL offseason, it might have to take place next year if it happens at all.
