Panthers release two veteran defensive backs
The Carolina Panthers brought some stability to their defensive backfield when they signed safety Eric Reid to a three-year extension earlier this month, but they are still making plenty of changes to that area of their team.
On Monday, the Panthers informed veteran cornerback Captain Munnerlyn and safety Mike Adams that they will be released.

I Appreciate the @panthers for the opportunity the last 2 years. I was told the Panthers are going in another direction. This great city and organization showed me nothing but love while… https://t.co/M9jdT2r1TS

Munnerlyn spent the first five seasons of his career in Carolina before playing three years with the Minnesota Vikings and then returning to the Panthers in 2017. He appeared in all 16 games last season, recording 47 total tackles, two sacks and an interception. Adams has played for five different teams over 15 seasons. He also started all 16 games last year and finished with 75 tackles and three picks.
Of the two, Munnerlyn will likely have an easier time finding work. He’s 30 and should still have some good years left, while Adams is 37 and nearing the end of his career.
