Plaxico Burress Can’t Picture Himself Pulling the Trigger and Shooting Someone

Plaxico Burress spent 20 months in prison after infamously shooting himself in the leg at a club in 2008. He was released in June, eventually signed with the Jets, and he enjoyed his finest game of the season Sunday — a three touchdown performance to beat the Chargers.

Even though Plaxico carried a gun into a Manhattan nightclub and shot himself, the wide receiver says he can’t picture himself ever actually using a gun to shoot someone.

“When I look back at it, I say if I was to get into a situation where I had to use my firearm, would I actually pull it and use it — return fire, or shoot? Just the thought of that just gives you goosebumps to think about it,” the Jets wide receiver said Monday at an anti-gun gathering in New York. “It was a false sense of security, because I can’t picture myself actually pulling the trigger and shooting somebody.”

It’s an interesting comment from Burress, and something you can view it in a few different ways. One, he could be saying the right thing for the purpose of manipulating public perception. Two, he could really mean that, in which case he might not be a bad person, but rather someone who did something extremely dumb.

Even though he’s been known to say some wild things, I’m sure he’d like us all to believe it’s the latter.
