Former NFL quarterback Tarvaris Jackson died in a car crash on Sunday, April 12 in Alabama, and some information surrounding the situation has emerged.
A police report says Jackson was speeding in his vehicle before veering off the road and crashing into a tree. TMZ Sports says Jackson was driving at about 70 mph in a 30 mph zone and going around a bend at a high speed. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was awake when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Jackson played at Alabama State in college and was drafted in the second round by the Minnesota Vikings back in 2006. He spent five seasons with the Vikings and then went on to play for the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. He started 14 games for Seattle in 2011 and threw for 3,091 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Jackson finished his career with 7,263 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, 35 interceptions and a passer rating of 78.5. He was predominantly a backup.
Not long after his final season with the Seahawks, Jackson was arrested for allegedly pulling a gun on his wife and threatening to kill her. The charges were later dropped, but Jackson said he believed the incident derailed his NFL career. He was aspiring to coach in the NFL.
