Tee Martin was supposedly one of the minority candidates who interviewed for the Oakland Raiders head coaching job. While that job belonged to Jon Gruden from the start, that does not mean Martin won’t be a part of the team’s future.
Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that Martin interviewed with the Raiders on Wednesday for an assistant coaching position. It’s unclear exactly what position he is being considered for.
Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon confirmed this week that he withdrew his name from consideration for the team’s QB coach job, so there could be an opening there. Martin is a former quarterback who led Tennessee to a national championship in the 1990s and had a brief NFL career. However, the belief is that Gruden and offensive coordinator Greg Olson are planning to coach the quarterbacks themselves, so Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk feels Martin would make more sense as a wide receivers coach in Oakland.

Martin has been part of the USC coaching staff since 2012, and he is currently the offensive coordinator with the Trojans. He was given a courtesy interview for Oakland’s head coaching job so the Raiders could satisfy the Rooney Rule, though the NFL is investigating whether or not the team actually satisfied it.
