Rams lose controversial challenge on fake field goal spot
The Los Angeles Rams lost a controversial challenge on the spot of a run by Johnny Hekker during the second quarter of Sunday’s game at New Orleans.
The Rams took over at the Saints 22 after forcing a Mark Ingram fumble. New Orleans’ defense forced the Rams into a 4th-and-4 at the 16, and it looked like the Rams would attempt a field goal. Instead, they ran a fake and had Hekker, their punter and holder, try to rush for the first down. He reached the ball out for the first down marker as he was being tackled out of bounds but was marked short.
The Rams challenged the spot since replays appeared to show Hekker reached the ball out far enough to the marker.

After a review, the officials determined the call on the field would stand.
The Saints took over thanks to the ruling and drove down the field for a touchdown to take a 21-14 lead.
That looked to be a bad spot and it made a huge difference in the game.
