Randy Moss thought call about trade to Patriots was a prank

Randy-Moss-Feels-Unwanted-By-PatriotsRandy Moss was so surprised to receive a phone call from Bill Belichick notifying him he was traded to the Patriots back in 2007, he says he thought it was a prank.

Moss is in New England this weekend as a broadcaster for the Patriots-Lions game and he sat down with Patriots.com for an interview. Moss talked about his time with the Pats and related to “Patriots Today” the story of his trade..

“When I came from Oakland, I was in a dark place,” Moss told interviewer Jackie Brittain. “I was in a dark place because I was there for two years and I just got traded from the Vikings and things weren’t going too well. I was away from home, and my career wasn’t going the way I wanted it to go. I remember I was in Houston, Texas for the draft and I got a call from Bill Belichick and I thought it was one of my friends playing. I was like ‘Who’s this?’ and he was like ‘Uh, it’s Bill Belichick.’

“Coach told me that if I was up here by 10 o’clock the next morning the trade would go through and, man, I started scrambling,” Moss continued. “When I came up here and became a Patriot I was very thankful. I was very grateful.”

Moss continued to say that he has a special relationship with the Kraft family. He said specifically that the late Myra Kraft pushed for the trade.

Though Moss only lasted in New England for over three seasons, he scored 50 touchdowns, including a record 23 in 2007, when the Pats went 18-1.

Moss also had a good reason to be suspicious about the call; not only was it a life jacket while he was drowning in Oakland, but we’ve also actually heard of players being victims of prank calls from friends.
