Ravens to air Michael Phelps’ race during Thursday’s preseason opener
If you needed any further proof as to how big of a deal Michael Phelps is in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, this should probably do the trick.
The Baltimore Ravens announced Wednesday that they will be airing Phelps’ quest for his 22nd career gold medal in the 200m individual medley final on Thursday during their preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.
The race will be shown on the video boards of M&T Bank Stadium during a commercial break in the game.
Phelps, 31, has already won three golds in Rio (not to mention the Internet) to further bolster his status as the most decorated Olympian of all-time. He was born and raised in Baltimore, and you can bet that the city (rightfully) wants to make sure nobody ever forgets it. Perhaps in the true spirit of their favorite son, the Ravens will serve their fans pasta by the bulk on Thursday as well.
