Report: Redskins head coaching job considered ‘worst job in football’

The Washington Redskins are in search of a new head coach after they fired Jay Gruden this week, and the belief is that they may have to dig deep into their basket of candidates to find one who is willing to take the job.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is not exactly lauded for his level of competence in running an NFL organization, and that is one of the main reasons the team has not won a playoff game in well over a decade. With Washington currently 0-5 and having a depleted roster, one AFC assistant coach told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that their head coaching vacancy is “the worst job in football.”

“They will get interest because it’s an NFL job, but it’s a s— job,” the coach said.

Freeman added that the Redskins have such a reputation for dysfunction that the odds of them landing a coach who can make a difference are “slim.”

Redskins president Bruce Allen, who has also become a big part of the problem in Washington, recently made the NFL world erupt with laughter when he said the team has a “damn good” culture. After all, this is a franchise that doesn’t bother recognizing Hall of Fame players that once played for them and currently has a star player that hasn’t shown up to work in part because of the way he has been treated by the team’s medical staff. To some extent, Gruden is probably relieved.
