Redskins Pro Bowler Trent Williams reportedly holding out for new contract
Trent Williams signed a contract with the Washington Redskins back in 2015 that made him the highest-paid offensive tackle in NFL history at the time, but he no longer feels that the deal represents fair value.
Williams was not present for mandatory minicamp in Washington on Tuesday, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that his absence was not simply about a health scare he had earlier in the offseason. Williams wants a new contract.
#Redskins LT Trent Williams, not spotted in the building this morning, wants a new deal, I’m told. His deal was huge when he signed out, but the market has shifted greatly. https://t.co/12AFhn394d

Williams, 30, has made the Pro Bowl every season since 2012. He’s set to make a base salary of $11 million this season and $12.5 million in 2020, which is significantly less than the $16 million per year fellow left tackle Taylor Lewan is getting from the Tennessee Titans after signing an extension last summer.
While he has dealt with some injuries over the past few seasons, Williams remains one of the best offensive linemen in football. Given their uncertain situation at the quarterback position, the Redskins would be wise to give him a raise.
