Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson couldn’t help but get emotional reacting to the news that rookie teammate Derrius Guice had suffered a season-ending injury.
Guice tore his ACL during Washington’s preseason opener, and will miss the entire 2018 season. That’s difficult news to take for Chris Thompson, who is slated to be the team’s third down ballcarrier.

“This is my first time ever shedding tears for a player, so, like, our group, we’ve come so close to each other in such a short period of time,” Thompson said. “And just to see one of the guys, you know going down, and I guess because I’m the older guy in the room now, it hurts even more because I feel like that’s my little brother. That’s my dude. I gotta do everything I can to help those guys grow. And just to see him going down was just a terrible feeling.”
Obviously, the Washington running back group is tight, and to see such a promising player as Guice have their season ended before it could begin is definitely an unfortunate event. It’s easy to see how that could be upsetting for a veteran mentor like Thompson.
