Report: Jamaal Charles could return this season

Jamaal Charles

Jamaal Charles may have been placed on IR by the Kansas City Chiefs this week, but that does not mean his season is over.

Charles underwent surgery on his knee Wednesday that was termed “exploratory” to try and find the source of his pain. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says the surgery went so well there is a chance of Charles returning this season.

Charles is coming off his second torn ACL and just had this surgery, plus he has to spend a minimum of eight weeks on injured reserve. So there isn’t a whole lot of room for Charles to contribute. But given Rapoport’s report, it sounds like a possibility that Charles could return late in the season or for the playoffs if the Chiefs make it.

Kansas City is 5-2 this season and worked out a few running backs this week because of a need for depth. If Charles’ recovery does go well, his return would be welcomed.
