Rex Ryan reportedly cried in locker room after Jets lost to Seahawks

Rex Ryan knows the New York Jets are a sinking ship. With a loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, New York slipped to 3-6 on the season and all but cemented itself on the outside looking in at the AFC playoff picture. Ryan is understandably disappointed with the way his team has played, and he was reportedly very emotional about it in the locker room on Sunday.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, several Jets players said Rex got so emotional when addressing the team after the game that he began to cry. One player said he showed every emotion possible and even asked, “When are you guys going to believe?”

These were not tears of joy. Ryan has a number of tough decisions upcoming over the remainder of the season, and there’s no guarantee he will keep his job. Despite Antonio Cromartie’s message to Jets fans earlier this week, the chants for Tim Tebow are only going to get louder as New York’s offense — led by Mark Sanchez — continues to struggle.

“Yeah, I mean I don’t know how many more losses you want to spot somebody before you think you can make the playoffs,” Ryan said. “It’s about a 2 percent chance of making the playoffs with the record we have.”

Last season, Rex jokingly guaranteed that the Jets were out of playoff contention in an attempt to set up a reverse jinx. This year, he sounds like a coach who actually thinks his team will be playing for nothing but pride the rest of the way. With an offense that managed to score only 16 points over its past two games and a defensive unit that is hardly a fraction of its old self, Rex’s hands are as full as they’ve ever been.
