Report: Robert Kraft mingled with Deflategate judge at party
One day U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman is potentially saving the New England Patriots’ season by vacating Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, and the next he’s yucking it up with Robert Kraft.
Well, not exactly, but something like that.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Kraft “mingled” with Berman over the weekend at a party in The Hamptons that was hosted by Discovery Communications chief David Zaslav and his wife. The party was attended by several big-name celebrities and business power brokers including Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, New York Giants co-owner Jon Tisch, Katie Couric and Alec Baldwin.
The Patriots confirmed that Kraft chatted with Berman but said the encounter was nothing that would constitute a conflict of interest.
“It was a chance encounter at a social event with hundreds of guests,” a team representative told Page Six. “There was a brief introduction and an exchange of pleasantries that lasted no more than a couple of minutes.”
This clearly wasn’t a case of Kraft and Berman being old friends. If anything, Kraft probably thanked him for a fair and speedy trial and asked what Berman thinks Brady’s chances are of winning the case at the next level.
Like most others from New England, Kraft is probably a huge fan of Berman at the moment. We already know what one coffee shop in Maine said about the judge. You can’t blame Patriots fans and team officials if they like the guy.
