Roger Goodell preaches ‘unity’ in response to Donald Trump comments
Roger Goodell and the NFL have stepped up in protection of their players.
Goodell sent a statement on Saturday in response to President Donald Trump’s comments on Friday night in which the president advocated firing a “son of a b—-“ who protests the national anthem.
Here’s the statement from Goodell:

Goodell preached unity in the country and culture. He also called Trump’s comments “divisive” and said they show an “unfortunate lack of respect” for the NFL and its players.
Goodell’s response is notable and shows he is making an effort to support players who are active politically and socially. This is something about which a group of players have been working with the commissioner.
