The contract extension talks between the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson are not going too well, and the discord between the sides could explain some recent tweets by the quarterback.
Wilson is entering the final season of his rookie deal, a contract so cheap it has allowed Seattle to build an excellent team around him. There was talk in March that the contract was very close to being finalized, but that apparently is not the case.
Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reported on “Insider Buzz” Friday that a deal between the two sides is “highly unlikely” to happen this offseason. He says Wilson is seeking a contract that will pay him at least $20 million per season over five years and the Seahawks are balking at those numbers.
The reported problems between the Seahawks and Wilson on the contract front has led to speculation that the quarterback’s vague tweets have been rooted in frustration with his contract situation.
Take for example some of these tweets sent recently:
Always control what you can control. Never let others nonsense & lack of gratefulness & respect bring you down.

Some of these can be considered simple words of encouragement for a guy who is extremely religious and belief-driven. However, many think some of these are “subtweets” aimed at Seahawks management.
Are those people right? Only Wilson knows that. But we do know that the last time a star athlete sent some subtweets, they did happen to be about exactly what we all thought.
