Ryan Fitzpatrick says fans told him to stop being greedy during negotiations
If the New York Jets were trying to paint Ryan Fitzpatrick as greedy during their contract negotiations, they apparently succeeded with at least a few fans.
Fitzpatrick said that he was approached by fans during his contract stalemate, some of whom criticized him for being greedy.
“Yeah, some of them were trying to feel it out and like buddy me up to get the answer. ‘What’s really going on with the situation?'” Fitzpatrick said Saturday at Jets camp, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “They wanted my agent’s number. Some of them were telling me I need to sign, ‘stop being so greedy.'”
Fitzpatrick said fans even followed him into the bathroom to get the lowdown on his situation.
“Yeah, someone shook it for me,” Fitzpatrick joked. “I don’t know, everywhere I went that was a topic of conversation.”
It’s not clear where most of the leaks came from, but it’s plausible that things like this came from the Jets to make it sound like they were being flexible and Fitzpatrick was taking a hardline stance. Some fans definitely weren’t buying it, mind you. Whatever the case, Fitzpatrick is in camp, and Jets fans will be pleased with that.
