Report: Ryan Tannehill in cast, has slight ACL tear

Ryan Tannehill

The Miami Dolphins are holding out hope that Ryan Tannehill could return this season, and there is now more information available about his injury status.

Tannehill was injured in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins’ win over the Arizona Cardinals last weekend. Initial reports said he had an ACL injury that would end his season, but later reports said the QB could return for the postseason.

Now Pro Football Talk shares more information about Tannehill’s condition, and they say it’s possible Tannehill could return in Week 17, but also possible the QB could be shut down for the year.

Tannehill reportedly has a Grade II MCL sprain, which typically entails a 4-6 week recovery time. He also has a partially torn ACL. The MCL injury should be able to heal over time, but the ACL will not. That means Tannehill could eventually need reconstructive knee surgery if he further injures the ACL.

Tannehill is currently in a cast to help his MCL heal. Miami is starting Matt Moore at quarterback in his absence.
