A marketing worker for the zoo confirmed to Larry Brown Sports that the beast was named after the San Francisco 49ers quarterback in April.
Garoppolo already having an animal named after him at the city’s zoo shows what kind of an impact he has made in such a short period of time. The quarterback was traded to the 49ers midway through last season. He played in six games, going 5-0 as the team’s starter. He passed for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. His success led the 49ers to make a big financial commitment to him during the offseason.
