Seahawks reportedly considering ‘significant fine’ for Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas ended his holdout prior to the start of the regular season and chose not to miss any meaningful games, but the Seattle Seahawks seem to be very unhappy with the way the All-Pro safety carried himself this past week.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Seahawks are considering a “significant fine” for Thomas for conduct detrimental to the team after he missed two practices during the week. Thomas has not been listed on the injury report, and there was some speculation that his absence from Friday’s practice could have to do with his contract situation.

No final decision has been made on the fine, and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said over the weekend that he expects Thomas to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. However, Seattle had previously seemed opposed to the idea of trading Thomas, but Mortensen reports that the Seahawks have engaged in trade talks with the Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.

Mortensen’s colleague Adam Schefter was told Thomas being traded to the Cowboys is “a super long shot.” Dallas is still interested in Thomas and is reportedly hoping to rekindle trade talks while team officials are in Seattle for Sunday’s game.
