Earl Thomas is still seeking a long-term contract that the Seahawks seem unwilling to give him, and the team Seattle is facing this weekend would be more than happy to take the All-Pro safety off of Pete Carroll’s hands.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Dallas Cowboys are still hoping to work out a trade for Thomas. The two sides have not spoken about a deal since the Cowboys offered a second-round draft pick for Thomas prior to the season, but Dallas officials are interested in re-opening talks while they’re in Seattle for Sunday’s game.
As Rapoport notes, the Seahawks acquired offensive lineman Duane Brown right after they faced Brown’s former team, the Houston Texans, last season.
Thomas missed practice on Friday and has not been listed on the injury report, which led to speculation that he could still be upset over his contract situation. However, he chose not to hold out into the regular season and is said to be against skipping a game for personal reasons.
Based on what he said after Seattle’s first game of the season, it seems like Thomas just wants to get paid. If the Seahawks are unwilling to give him a new contract, he would probably still prefer a trade.
