Report: Seahawks release Jeremy Lane in addition to Richard Sherman

Jeremy Lane

The Seattle Seahawks are making sweeping changes to their defense this offseason, and Richard Sherman is not the only cornerback they are parting ways with.

Shortly after word surfaced on Friday that Sherman had been released, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Seahawks are also cutting Jeremy Lane.

Lane, a former sixth-round pick, spent the first six seasons of his career with Seattle and was with the team through the “Legion of Boom” glory days. He has had a somewhat tumultuous past six months both on and off the field, as he was ejected for throwing a punch in a game early in the season and arrested for driving while under the influence back in January.

The Seahawks have also traded Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles, and they may not be done making moves. There has been talk that defensive backs Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas could be on their way out the door, though it remains to be seen just how extensive of a rebuild Seattle is planning to take on.
