Shannon Sharpe is taking some time this week to respond to his former NFL teammate.

The fired former ESPN analyst Sharpe released the latest episode of his “Nightcap” podcast over the weekend. Speaking during the episode with his co-host Chad Johnson, Sharpe reacted to the recent comments that retired linebacker great Ray Lewis made about him.

On a recent podcast appearance of his own, Lewis said that Sharpe changed after becoming famous. Lewis also noted that he used to be close friends with Sharpe before the two ended up going “our own separate ways.”

You can read Lewis’ full remarks about Sharpe here.

“I got nothing bad to say,” responded Sharpe on his podcast. “Whatever transpired, I’ll bite my tongue. I’ll be the bigger person. I’ll walk away. Hey, you right.

“It’s low-hanging fruit,” Sharpe added. “There are a lot of people taking shots [at me right now]. It’s alright. It’s OK … Everybody wanna pile on. Everybody jump on now. ‘We got him down … Let me get my lick now.’ Everybody wanna get a lick now. Because when your boy was doing good, a lot of people didn’t have a whole lot to say. Now everybody got something to say.”

Here is the full clip of Sharpe’s response.

Sharpe, 57, and Lewis, 50, were teammates on the Baltimore Ravens for two seasons from 2000-01. That included winning a Super Bowl together during the 2000 NFL campaign.

But it is obvious now that the two Hall of Famers have since outgrown each other after getting a little older. With Sharpe having recently been fired by ESPN in the wake of settling his sexual misconduct lawsuit (and now even hinting at some potential financial trouble), he certainly finds the timing of Lewis’ comments to be a bit suspect.
