Shorts Guy Chris Matthew gets to finally wear pants after Winnipeg wins Grey Cup

Shorts guy Chris Matthew

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup on Sunday for the first time since 1990, and nobody may have appreciated that win more than Chris Matthew.

Matthew, a Blue Bombers fan, was anticipating a Grey Cup win by his team in 2001. He was expecting it so much that he told his friends he wouldn’t wear pants again until Winnipeg won the Grey Cup. They had a great team that year and faced an 8-10 squad in the Grey Cup, yet the team somehow lost. They made it back twice thereafter, losing in 2007 and 2011.

“We were playing what was supposed to be a far inferior team. We should have beaten them no problem, so I’d been out with a couple of guys the night before, and the next day somebody said to me, ‘How long are you going to be wearing shorts,’” he said this week on the “Pardon My Take” podcast. “It was a nice November, I was still in them. I said, ‘When Bombers win the Grey Cup.’ ”

It wasn’t until Sunday night that they finally won it, ending 18 years of Matthew wearing nothing but shorts. Matthew, who says he stuck to his shorts promise and only put on long underwear on limited occasions when it was really cold, put on a pair of Zubaz pants to celebrate.

Matthew really looked out of practice when it came to putting on those pants. This might cause his body to go into shock.
