St. Louis sports bar no longer supporting Rams due to Ferguson demonstration

Rams-hands-up-dont-shoot

A St. Louis sports bar is no longer supporting the Rams because of the five players who showed support for the Ferguson, Mo., protesters on Sunday.

Five Rams players did a “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture when they entered the field for Sunday’s game against the Raiders to show their support for those who feel the killing of teen Michael Brown by officer Darren Wilson was an injustice.

Time OUT Sports Bar & Grill in St. Louis called the actions of the players “bone headed” and said they will no longer have happy hour prior to Rams games. They also say they are taking all the signage for the Rams off their walls.

Here is their written statement on their Facebook page:

Due to the bone headed “hands up, don’t shoot” act by the number of Rams players on the Sunday game the Time Out Bar & Grill will no longer support the St Louis Rams, so we will no longer have Happy hours for the Rams games and all signs and pictures will be off the walls… We have to stand up to thugs who destroy our community and burn down local businesses, and boycott the other thugs/organizations who support them…

The bar is still supporting the NFL and decided to switch allegiances to the Kansas City Chiefs instead:

After receiving a lot of attention for their initial post, the bar decided to issue a clarification on Facebook:

Just to clarify our point of view at Time Out.
We SUPPORT FREEDOM OF SPEECH
We SUPPORT PEACE FULL DEMONSTRATION
We are NOT TAKING SIDES ON THE FERGUSON TRAGEDY
We DISAGREE WITH BRINGING THE PROTEST TO A NATIONWIDE PROFESSIONAL SPORTING EVENT.
We welcome all opinions because we believe in the first amendment, just PLEASE respect each other!

The St. Louis Police Officers Association issued a stinging statement on Sunday night condemning the Rams for the display. They also said advertisers and businesses would voice their opinions accordingly. It looks like the people who run this bar agree.
